You all may be asking yourselves, “What is The James Brown?”
James Brown the singer? Charlie Brown’s twice removed half brother, James Brown? A misspelling of Foxy Brown?
The answer is this, my friends: The James Brown, I Feeeel Good is an open faced sandwich from the restaurant Big Daddy’s.
Big Daddy’s specializes in slightly fancy, calorie loaded American food. They are known for their superbly made tater tots. (Not too salty, and the perfect amount of golden and crispy.) But they have an amazing array of unique burgers, shakes, and sandwiches. Their décor combines several generations of the American diner, from the retro fifties booths, to kitschy crap on the walls.
I actually meant to write about this much sooner, but this is how my discovery of The James Brown happened….
Sidney was in the home stretch of her freedom. It was three weeks before her college courses began, and the need to create lasting memories that would carry her through the semester was immense. Little coffee dates with one or two friends just wasn’t cutting it. No… she needed something more.
Suddenly, the idea sprang into her mind’s eye like the jaws of tiger clasping the neck of it’s prey. Sidney knew what she had to do, and she had to make a Facebook event. There was only one way she could bring her friends together for one last hoorah: Dinner.
Early or late, each person arrived to celebrate the last days of Sidney’s independence. One might say that the company was the winning part of the evening. But Sidney’s friends would not say that. They know her too well. If you were to ask any of Sidney’s friends, they would tell you the real winner for Sidney, was her choice of food. The James Brown was the real winner.
Big Daddy’s description of The James Brown:
Sliced roast beef, Melted Cheese, Crispy Bacon, Tomatoes, Caramelized Onions, Open-faced, on Thick-cut White Bread.
Need I say more? Need I say more?!!!
Each ingredient blended together in a savory, but not overpowering, cocktail of flavors. A bonus being there is enough of each item on the sandwich to ensure you get a little bit of everything in each bite. It’s like every delicious home-cooked meal from your wildest dreams rolled into one. I can easily say it is one of the most flavorful, filling, and satisfying meals I have ever eaten.
Speaking of filling, the sandwich itself is huge! You essentially get two sandwiches (since they are open-faced) and a side of tater tots for less than $15 bucks.
5 stars, folks. 5 whole stars for The James Brown. Make your reservations Here!
